Lisieux Congress Poster
Therese had become world famous. She had passed away in 1897. The Story of a Soul, her autobiography, came out in 1898. It quickly became a world-wide bestseller. She was beatified in 1923 and Canonized in 1925. Pope Pius XI had placed his pontificate under the sign of Saint Thérèse. As she had predicted before she had died, she had become beloved around the world.
A basilica for her was started in Lisieux in 1929. By 1932, the time of the conference of this poster, enough of it was finished, including the nave and the crypt, to hold a Catholic Congress there. Translated, the poster reads, Congress and Solemn Feasts in Honor of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, at the Inauguration of the Minor Basilica.
We think this poster is really cool. It's really rare too. We love the Art Deco style. Therese is spiritual giant in this hierarchic scale. She's like a rock star, only more famous and for better reasons.
We had to make extensive restorations of this poster, which makes this exclusive and copyrighted to us. Like the majority of the unique prints we offer, we haven't seen anyone else offering it on the Internet.
** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. All Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt.
- Acid-free paper - Archival pigments, rated to last for generations. - Cardboard backer - Above story of the art - Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
